The Pueblo Technical Academy is a Science / Technology Magnet School. It was first established as a "school-within a school" program through Pueblo School District 70 in 1994. Since its inception, the academy has evolved into an independent high school that meets all graduation requirements and curriculum standards for students grades 9-12.

The school was built upon the idea that computer technology and hands-on learning are important tools for educating students who will be working and living in the 21st century. Technology skills gained by students help to make them more productive and employable; technology is also a strong motivator and a tool that can give meaning and aid in the understanding of traditional subject matter. The hands-on nature of the curriculum helps students to gain a more in depth understanding of topics under study. Students must, of course, have the background knowledge necessary to be able to apply new skills and ideas. Traditional methods of instruction are also employed at the academy whenever they are the appropriate methodology.

The daily integration of computer technology with traditional methods of teaching and learning is only part of the school's philosophy of "A Different Atmosphere... A Different Attitude." The atmosphere at the Academy is different than a typical high school in many ways.  The integration of computer technology is accompanied by curriculum integration in several large projects throughout the year. Visitors often comment about the atmosphere of professionalism and teamwork experienced when students are working on one of these projects. Students gain the ability to see connections between what they are learning and are then able to carry over what is learned in one area and apply it to new situations. This, and the ability to work as a member of a team, are valuable skills that will aid them in college and beyond.

The Pueblo Technical Academy is a public high school attended by students throughout District 60 and 70. Enrollment is open to any student in good standing with the district. Students who wish to attend need only apply and come to school prepared to work hard within a rigorous and demanding curriculum. Space is, however, limited to 120 students.
