To Students and Parents:

The site includes course descriptions, graduation requirements and the standards addressed throughout the curriculum at the Academy. Students and parents may be assured of the integrity of the courses taught at the academy in terms of meeting and exceeding district standards, completeness of preparation for college, and the incorporation of skills necessary for students to be successful in a fast changing, global, technology rich society.

Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum and is an integral part of the way lessons are taught and learned at the Academy. Courses are taught using many different methods of delivery. The method best suited for the particular topic is the method used; however, active learning and the use of hands on activities and computer application is incorporated as often as it suits the goal of the lesson.

One purpose of the information in this site is to give students the opportunity to make educated decisions about classes they wish to take. Students should keep in mind their personal goal for their own education and that it is important to be successful in all courses. Students may earn up to 32 credits over their high school career by attending the Academy. Freshmen and sophomore schedules are designed to ensure that district graduation requirements are met early. This allows junior and senior students more flexibility and more opportunity to select courses that will better prepare them for their specific college major and areas of interest.

The staff at the Academy firmly believes that students need a solid academic and technological foundation to build upon at the post secondary level in order to compete for careers that are and will be in demand in this global economy. It is this reason that traditional academic courses are taught using technology and that specific technology courses are offered. Students are encouraged to build further on this foundation beginning as early as the junior and senior year in high school through the post secondary options offered by Pueblo Community College and Colorado State University - Pueblo.

Although the curriculum is rigorous and expectations of students is high, learning at the Academy is fun and rewarding. Every student can be successful with effort and commitment. Parents are invited and encouraged to take an active interest in their students education and to contact the school at any time.

Sincerely,

James Gradishar
Principal
